Hildur Gudnadottir has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO and Sky mini-series Chernobyl. The show is created by Craig Mazin (The Hangover: Part II & III), directed by Johan Renck (Downloading Nancy) and stars Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson. The 5-part drama centers on the 1986 nuclear disaster that triggered the evacuation of a Ukranian city from the perspectives of Valery Legasov, the Soviet scientist chosen by the Kremlin to investigate the accident and Boris Shcherbina, the man responsible for leading the USSR government commission in the wake of the disaster. Mazin is also executive producing the Sister Pictures and The Mighty Mint production with Jane Featherstone (Utopia, Broadchurch) and Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones). Johann Johannsson who collaborated with Gudnadottir on several projects was originally attached to score the series before he passed away as reported earlier this year. Chernobyl is expected to premiere in 2019 in the U.S. on HBO and in Europe on Sky.
Gudnatottir also has the action crime thriller Sicario: Day of the Soldado coming up.
