The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced that composer John Powell will be honored at the 33rd Annual Screen Music Awards (previously known as ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards) on May 23, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Powell will receive the Henry Mancini Award, which is given to composers for outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of music for film, television and visual media. The composer is known for his scores for numerous animated movies, including How to Train Your Dragon (which earned him his first Academy Award nomination), Shrek, Happy Feet, Chicken Run, Bolt, Horton Hears a Who! and most recently, Ferdinand. His other film scoring credits include The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum, Hancock, Mr. & Mrs. Smith,  and X-Men: The Last Stand. He recently recorded his score for Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is coming out this May. In addition, the Screen Music Awards will honor the composers and songwriters of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2017.
