90th Academy Awards Nominations Announced

oscars9 This morning, the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards were announced. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2017 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® and televised live on the ABC Television Network. Here are the music-related nominations:

Best Original Score:

  • Dunkirk – Hans Zimmer
  • Phantom Thread – Jonny Greenwood
  • The Shape of Water – Alexandre Desplat
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi – John Williams
  • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – Carter Burwell

Best Original Song:

  • All the Stars From Black Panther 
  • Shallow From A Star Is Born
  • I’ll Fight From RBG 
  • The Place Where Lost Things Go From Mary Poppins Returns 
  • When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings From Dumplin’

Among the score composers, John Williams received his 51st Oscar nomination, Hans Zimmer was honored with his eleventh nomination, Alexandre Desplat received his ninth nomination and Carter Burwell was nominated for the second time. The only first time nominee in the Best Original Score category is Jonny Greenwood.

    Interestingly “Beauty and the Beast” didn´t get any nomination, neither the score nor the songs. Quite a disappointment IMHO!

    If the same songwriters from La La Land win for This is Me, I would go bonkers, wish they don’t have a movie in the bag for this year

    Dunkirk?? Really??? Did these people even listen to that endless boring droning score before nominating it? What are they smoking over there?
