No movies are opening nationwide this week.
Opening in New York before being released in Los Angeles next week and in other markets later this month is the fantasy drama The Shape of Water co-written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Doug Jones and Octavia Spencer. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama The Disaster Artist directed by James Franco who also stars in the movie alongside Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zax Efron, Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver and Alison Brie. Dave Porter (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Preacher, The Blacklist) has composed the film’s original score. WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score within the next couple of weeks. Opening in New York and Los Angeles this weekend before expanding to more markets later this month is the comedy drama Wonder Wheel written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Kate Winslet, Jim Belushi, Juno Temple and Justin Timberlake. The movie doesn’t feature an original score, but numerous period jazz tracks. No soundtrack album has been announced. The film tells the story of four characters whose lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s. Also opening in select theaters is the action thriller 24 Hours to Live directed by Brian Smrz and starring Ethan Hawke, Xu Qing, Liam Cunningham, Rutger Hauer and Paul Anderson. The film’s original music is composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Watchmen, The Punisher, Dawn of the Dead).
