Tom Cruise revealed in a recent interview with Access Hollywood that music by composer Harold Faltermeyer will be featured in the upcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick. Cruise will return to star in the movie. Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) is reportedly in talks to direct and Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Rock, Armageddon, Remember the Titans) and Skydance’s David Ellison (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Terminator Genisys) will be producing the project. Faltermeyer previously scored the 1986 film and was honored with a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for his Top Gun Anthem. Top Gun: Maverick is expected to shoot next year and will likely be released in 2019.

Apparently Cruise spoke out of his butt. Over at Harold’s Facebook page he says: “no one has called yet”. ATTN: Cruise — there’s this invention that’s been around for a hundred years called the “telephone”. Harold also has one. You dial a certain number and you can get him. Wild, I know!
That was more than a week ago, things could have changed since.
That’s only if we assume the video where Cruise made that statement was filmed the same day or before and put up quickly, but who knows how long ago that was filmed. Certainly if Harold was to say he’s not been asked, he would likewise let us know that it was on.
