Kurt Farquhar is scoring the CW drama pilot Black Lightning. The show is developed by Samil Akil & Mara Brock Akil (Being May Jane, Sparkle, Girlfriends) based on the DC comic books character created by Tony Isabella & Trevor Von Eeden and stars Cress Williams in the title role, alongside Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams. The drama revolves around Jefferson Pierce (aka Black Lightning) who is pulled back into vigilante life following his retirement as one daughter is hell-bent on justice and the other is being recruited by a local gang. Samil & Mara Brock Akil are also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Riverdale). Farquhar has previously scored such shows as Being Mary Jane, The Game and Girlfriends for the writers/producers. The CW will announce within the next few weeks whether the project will be picked up to series.
Farquhar (The King of Queens, Moesha, The Perfect Game) also continues to score Freeform’s Stitchers, which will return for its third season on June 5. He also has the feature drama Created Equal starring Aaron Tveit & Lou Diamond Phillips coming up.
