It was announced today that Nicholas Britell will team up with with dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied to score the upcoming musical drama Carmen. The film is inspired by French composer Georges Bizet’s opera and centers on a woman who travels from the deserts of Mexico to Los Angeles in search of freedom. No casting announcements have been made yet. Dimitri Rassam (The Little Prince, Upside Down) and Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Casual) are producing the project. Millepied is best known for his dance choreography for Black Swan starring Natalie Portman. Britell has previously scored Portman’s feature directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness. Carmen is set to begin shooting in early 2018 in Los Angeles. (Variety)
As previously reported, Britell (Moonlight, The Big Short, The Free State of Jones) also has Gary Ross’ Ocean’s 8 and Jonathan Dayton’s & Valerie Faris’ Battle of the Sexes coming up.
