Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have composed the original music for the upcoming Netflix original movie War Machine. The film is directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The Rover) and stars Brad Pitt, Topher Grace, Emory Cohen, Tilda Swinton, Anthony Michael Hall, Will Poulter, Jonathan Ing and Ben Kingsley. The satire is based on the book The Operators by Michael Hastings and revolves around a four-star U.S. military general who is sent to Afghanistan to bring the war to an end, but finds he himself is the one under attack. Pitt is also producing the project with Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave, Moonlight, The Big Short) for Plan B Entertainment, alongside Ian Bryce (Saving Private Ryan, Spider-Man, World War Z). Cave and Ellis have previously scored Plan B’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. War Machine will premiere on May 26 on Netflix.
As previously reported, the composers also recently scored Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River starring Jeremy Renner & Elizabeth Olsen. The thriller premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters on August 4 by the Weinstein Company. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music. Ellis’ recent projects also include the Django Reinhardt biopic Django. He is also scoring the upcoming French biographical drama Gauguin directed by Edouard Deluc and starring Vincent Cassel and Ian McCamy. The movie, which tells the story of French post-Impressionist artist Paul Gaugin, is set to be released in French theaters this fall.
