Dan Jones has been hired to score the upcoming drama On Chesil Beach. The film is directed by Dominic Cooke (The Hollow Crown) and stars Saoirse Ronan, Billy Howle, Emily Watson, Samuel West, Anne-Marie Duff, Adrian Scarborough and Bebe Cave. The movie based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan (Atonement) is set in the 1960s and how a blissful honeymoon is ruined by a misunderstanding between nervous virgin newlyweds. McEwan also wrote the screenplay. Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol, Made in Dagenham) and Stephen Woolley (Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Game) are producing the project. Jonas has previously scored the Cooke-helmed The Hollow Crown installments, Henry VI Part 1 & 2 and Richard III. On Chesil Beach is expected to premiere later this year.
Jones (Shadow of the Vampire, Max) also has the BBC mini-series Man in an Orange Shirt coming up. The 2-parter is written by Patrick Gale and stars Vanessa Redgrave, Julian Morris, James McArdle, Joanna Vanderham, Oliver Jackson Cohen and David Gyasi. The drama tells two love stories, 60 years apart – linked by family, and by a painting that holds a secret that echoes down the generations. Michael Samuels (Any Human Heart) is directing the project, which is produced by Lisa Osborne (Little Dorrit). A premiere date later in 2017 is expected. As previously reported, Jones has also scored William Oldroyd’s Lady Macbeth, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and was picked up by Roadside Attractions for a domestic release on June 2, 2017. Jones’ other recent projects also include the two BBC mini-series The Replacement starring Vicky McClure & Morven Christie, as well as SSGB starring Sam Riley and Kate Bosworth. Both shows premiered last month in the UK.
