H. Scott Salinas and Reza Safinia are composing the music for the upcoming biographical drama Birth of the Dragon. The film is directed by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and stars Billy Magnussen, Xia Yu and Philip Wan-Lung Ng. The movie chronicles Bruce Lee’s emergence as a martial-arts superstar after his legendary secret showdown with fellow martial artist Wong Jack Man. Stephen J. Rivele & Christopher Wilkinson (Ali, Nixon) have written the screenplay. Michael London (Sideways, The Illusionist, House of Sand and Fog) is producing the project with Janice Williams (Trumbo, Love the Coopers), James H. Pang, Leo Shi Young (Painted Skin), Rivele and Wilkinson. Birth of the Dragon will premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival.
Salinas (Cartel Land, Murder in the First, Zipper) who previously scored Nolfi’s NBC series Allegiance also has the Netflix original documentary The Ivory Game coming up. The film is directed by Kief Davidson & Richard Ladkani and goes undercover into the dark and sinister underbelly of ivory trafficking. The movie will also premiere at TIFF and will premiere on Netflix on November 4, 2016. Safinia’s previous credits include the features Filly Brown, The Trust and Mercy.
