Ryuichi Sakamoto has been chosen as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards at the Film Fest Gent, following the festival’s spotlight on Japanese cinema. A selection of his work will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé. Sakamoto’s best known film scoring credits include The Last Emperor, for which he received the Academy Award, Brian De Palma’s Snake Eyes and Femme Fatale, Little Buddha, The Sheltering Sky and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. He most recently composed the music for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s The Revenant, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. The 16th World Soundtrack Awards will take place on October 19, 2016 and will also celebrate television music as reported earlier this year.
