Director Amma Asante announced on Twitter that Patrick Doyle is scoring the upcoming period drama A United Kingdom and will be recording his music with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The movie directed by Asante (Belle) stars David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Jack Davenport, Terry Pheto, Tom Felton, Arnold Oceng, Jack Lowden and Laura Carmichael. The movie is based on the book Colour Bar by Susan Williams and tells the true love story between Seretse Khama, the King of Botswana, who fell in love with London office worker Ruth Williams in 1947. Guy Hibbert (Five Minutes of Heaven) has written the screenplay. Oyelowo is also producing the project with Rick McCallum (Star Wars), Brunson Green (The Help), Justin Moore-Lewy, Charlie Mason and Peter Heslop. A United Kingdom is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
Doyle’s other upcoming projects also include the animated feature Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero and the comedy Whisky Galore.
Doyle is probably the most underrated composer of this era.
