Alex Heffes has been hired to compose the music for the upcoming History event mini-series Roots. The 8-parter stars Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The drama is based on Alex Haley’s novel of the same title and chronicles the history of an African slave sold to America and his descendants. Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Salt), Thomas Carter (Coach Carter), Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City) and Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) are directing the episodes. Will Packer (Ride Along), Marc Toberoff (The Mists of Avalon), Mark Wolper (Piranha 3D), Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal are executive producing the A+E Studios production.
