Marc Shaiman has recently recorded his music for the upcoming drama LBJ. The film is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Woody Harrelson as President Lyndon B. Johnson, Jeffrey Donovan as John F. Kennedy, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy, Richard Jenkins as Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Ralph Yarborough and Kim Allen as Jackie Kennedy. Doug McKeon, C. Thomas Howell, Michael Mosley, Brent Bailey, John Burke, Brian Stepanek, Rich Sommer, Tim Ransom and Judd Lormand are co-starring. The movie follows Johnson’s political career from his days as Senate majority leader to his ascendancy to the presidency in the wake of Kennedy’s assassination, and culminating in his decision not to seek re-election in 1968. Joey Hartstone has written the screenplay. Reiner is also producing the project with Matthew George, Liz Glotzer, Michael R. Williams, Tim White and Trevor White. Shaiman has previously scored most of Reiner’s directorial efforts including Misery, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally…, The Bucket List and The American President. LBJ is expected to premiere later this year.
Shaiman also has Disney’s currently untitled Mary Poppins sequel coming up. He is also involved in NBC’s live musical presentation of Hairspray, which is set to be released later this year.
