Roger Neill is reuniting with director Mike Mills on the upcoming drama 20th Century Women. The film is written and directed by Mills and stars Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning and Billy Crudup. The movie is set in 1979 Santa Barbara and follows a mother who is trying her best to raise her teenage son while looking for answers from two other remarkable women in her life. Megan Ellison (Her, American Hustle, Foxcatcher) is producing the project for her Annapurna Pictures company, alongside Anne Carey (Mr. Holmes, Adventureland, The American) for Archer Gray and Youree Henley (The Bling Ring). Neill has previously composed the music for Mills’ last feature Beginners starring Ewan McGregor & Christopher Plummer. 20th Century Women is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
Neill also continues to score Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle, which just received a two Golden Globe Awards last night for Best Comedy and Best Actor. The composer also has the comedy Don’t Think Twice coming up. The film is written and directed by Mike Birbiglia (Sleepwalk with Me) and stars himself, alongside Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher and Chris Gethard. The movie revolves around an improv group that loses its lease on its home theater at the same time that one of its cast members lands a TV comedy sketch show. Birbiglia is also producing the project with Miranda Bailey (Super, The Diary of a Teenage Girl) and Amanda Marshall (Swiss Army Man). Don’t Think Twice is also excepted to premiere later in 2016.
