turkey-hollowMick Giacchino, son of Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (UpLostStar TrekInside Out), has composed the music for the Lifetime original movie Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow. The film is directed by Kirk Thatcher (It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie) and stars Mary Steenburgen, Jay Harrington, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Graham Verchere and Genevieve Buechner. The movie follows a family who goes on a hunt for a Bigfoot-like creature called the Howling Hoodoo during a visit to the house of their kooky aunt. Christopher Baldi and Tim Burns (An American Werewolf in Paris) wrote the script based on a story by Jim Henson, Jerry Juhl and Thatcher. Lisa Henson (Good Boy!) and Halle Stanford are producing the project with Michael Taylor. Mick Giacchino has previously worked on a number of his father’s scores, including this year’s Jurassic World, for which he wrote the source cue Sunrise O’er Jurassic World as featured on the official soundtrack album. Michael Giacchio has collaborated with Thatcher on ABC’s 2005 movie The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz back in 2005. Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow will premiere next Saturday, November 21, on Lifetime. Visit the official movie website for more information.

I am picturing a future where current arguments about “Zimmer clones are taking over Hollywood!” have become “Giacchino clones domination!”. Not sure if it’d be easy to tell sarcasm apart from fact then!

Webmaster, the last three lines need a little revision => “Michael Giacchio has collaborated with Michael Giacchino on ABC’s 2005 movie The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz back in 2005”.

Sons of famous film composers who are also accomplished composers of their own are more common than you imagine. A few examples:
-Joel Goldsmith, son of the great Jerry Goldsmith, did a lot of movies, TV series, videogames, and the collaborated with his father on Star Trek: First Contact.

-Andrea Morricone is the responsable for the Cinema Paradiso love theme, along with other Italian movies.

-Joseph Williams, John’s son, did additional music for Return of the Jedi, and other few TV series.

-And, of course, the whole Newman family: Thomas and David Newman are sons of the great Alfred Newman, and Randy Newman is his nephew.

So, anyway, all of those cases (including, I presume, Giacchino’s) are really different from the whole RC takeover controversy. I mean, it’s not that Michael is making Mick write music in his style, right?

Also Peter Bernstein, who scored one or two Star Wars TV movies.

And still hot off his second film score and two shorts, Patrick Neil Doyle, son of Patrick Doyle. We’ll have to wait a little to find out what he’s offering.
