Paul Englishby has been hired to score the upcoming Netflix original series The Crown. The show is created by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Rush, Frost/Nixon) and stars Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Matt Smith as Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill. The 10-parter is based on Morgan’s play The Audience and centers on the interplay and political intrigue between Queen Elizabeth II and the British prime ministers spanning several decades. Morgan is also executive producing the Sony Pictures TV and Left Bank Pictures production with Stephen Daldry (The Hours, The Reader), Philip Martin (The Forger), Andy Harries (The Damned United), Suzanne Mackie (Calendar Girls, Pinky Boots), Tanya Seghatchian (My Summer of Love), Robert Fox (Notes on a Scandal, Iris) and Matthew Byam Shaw. Englishby’s previous scoring credits include features such as An Education, Miss Petigrew Lives for a Day, Sunshine on Leith, as well as TV shows including The Musketeers and Luther. The Crown is set to premiere next year on Netflix worldwide.
