Steve Jablonsky is reteaming with director Peter Berg on the upcoming action drama Deepwater Horizon. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Dylan O’Brien, Gina Rodriguez and Kate Hudson. The movie centers on the true events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, which killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others. Matthew Sand (Ninja Assassin) and Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z, State of Play) have written the screenplay based on the 2010 New York Times article Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hours by David Barstow, David Rohde & Stephanie Saul. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, G.I. Joe, Salt) and Mark Vahradian (RED, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) are producing the Summit Entertainment and Participant Media production with Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson (The Gambler, Entourage) and David Womark (Life of Pi). Jablonsky has previously collaborated with Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) on the 2011 feature Battleship and 2013’s Lone Survivor. Deepwater Horizon will be released on September 30, 2016 by Lionsgate.
The composer’s latest feature project, The Last Witch Hunter, opens in theaters nationwide this weekend. As previously reported, Jablonsky also has the sequel Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles 2 coming up. He also recently co-scored the comedy series You, Me and the Apocalypse with Pieter Schlosser. The show is created by Iain Hollands and stars Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer, Megan Mullally and Mathew Baynton. The series follows an extended family whose lives unexpectedly cross paths, just as the news of an impending comet colliding with Earth hits. Hollands is also executive producing the Working Title Television production with Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Love Actually, Atonement), Juliette Howell, Lynn Horsford, Andrew Conrad and JoAnn Alfano. The comedy just premiered in the UK and will air in the U.S. next year on NBC. Visit the official show website for more information.
