Laura Karpman has been tapped to score the upcoming WGN America original series Underground. The show is created and written by Misha Green & Joe Pokaski and stars Christopher Meloni, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Jessica de Gouw, Alano Miller, Adina Porter, Amirah Vann, Marc Blucas, Mykelti Williamson, Reed Diamond and Johnny Ray Gill. The drama follows a group of slaves who aim to travel 600 miles to escape from a Georgia plantation. Green and Pokaski are also executive producing the project with Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend), Tory Tunnell & Joby Harold (Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur), as well as Anthony Hemingway (The Wire, Treme) who is also directing the first two episodes. John Legend is also executive producing the show with his Get Lifted partners Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius. Karpman’s previous scoring credits include the Steven Spielberg-produced mini-series Taken, the 2002 TV adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, 2009’s The Tournament and 2013’s Black Nativity.
