This past Sunday, June 21, Academy Award-nominated composer John Debney‘s Passion of the Christ Oratorio had its Czech premiere at the 57th Smetana’s Litomysl Festival. The concert was held in the Litomysl Castle’s courtyard, was attended by over 1,200 people and concluded their evening with five curtain calls. Michal Kortyš, the mayor of Litomysl was also in attendance along with several other dignitaries. Debney conducted the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra himself. Special guest included vocalists, soprano Alžběta Poláčková, mezzosoprano Lisbeth Scott, and tenor Aleš Briscein, as well as world renowned flautist, Pedro Eustache.
