Marcelo Zarvos is reteaming with Barry Levinson on the upcoming comedy Rock the Kasbah. The film stars Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride, Scott Caan and Zooey Deschanel. The movie follows a has-been rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan, where he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice and manages her through Afghanistan’s version of American Idol, the wildly popular Afghan Star. Mitch Glazer (Scrooged, The Recruit, Magic City) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with QED’s Bill Block (Fury, Elysium, W.), Venture Forth’s Jacob Pechenik (The Skeleton Twins and Shangri-La Entertainment’s Steve Bing. Brian Grazer and Tom Freston are serving as executive producers. Zarvos and Levinson have previously collaborated on the HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack, as well as the theatrical features What Just Happened?, The Bay and The Humbling. Rock the Kasbah is set to be released on October 23, 2015 by Open Road Films.
Zarvos’ upcoming feature projects also include American Ultra starring Jesse Eisenberg & Kristen Stewart, the Nicholas Sparks adaption and the John le Carre adaptation Our Kind of Traitor. The composer is also returning to score the new seasons of Showtime’s Ray Donovan and The Affair.
