Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD club series. The releases include an expanded soundtrack for the 1990 sci-fi action horror sequel Predator 2 directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Danny Glover, Kevin Peter Hall, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, María Conchita Alonso and Bill Paxton. The 2-CD deluxe edition features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away), including previously unreleased music. The composer previously composed the score for the first part in the series, which Varese Sarabande released for the first time in 2003. The new club titles also include an expanded soundtrack for the 1986 comedy drama Peggy Sue Got Married directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Kathleen Turner, Nicolas Cage, Don Murray, Barbara Harris, Jim Carrey and Joan Allen. The deluxe edition features the film’s original music composed and conducted by John Barry (Dance With Wolves, Out of Africa, Goldfinger), as well as the period songs from the original soundtrack release. The Tristar Pictures production received three Academy Award nominations, including a nod for Turner’s performance in the Best Actress category.
The label has also announced a new soundtrack release for the 1943 drama For Whom the Bells Toll directed by Sam Cooper and starring Gary Cooper & Ingrid Bergman featuring the film’s Academy Award-nominated music composed by Victor Young (Around the World in 80 Days, The Quiet Man, Shane).
