According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer will return to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 3. The film is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson who previously helmed the second part in the series and features the voice talent of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson. The movie continues the journey of Po as he is mastering the art of Kung Fu and faces two threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Monsters vs. Aliens) who penned the previous two movies have written the screenplay. Melissa Cobb is producing the project and Guillermo del Toro serves as an as executive producer. Zimmer has previously co-scored the first two installments in the Kung Fu Panda series with John Powell. No word yet on whether Powell will be involved in the second sequel as well. Kung Fu Panda 3 is set to be released on December 23, 2015 by 20th Century Fox.
Zimmer’s upcoming projects also include Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
That’s disappointing, I’m still hoping Powell comes back! The second score is one of my favorites ever and I’m pretty sure Zimmer didn’t work on it!
The second one was scored by both Hans Zimmer and John Powell. As was the first. I too hope John Powell comes back, but even if he doesn’t Hans will do a fantastic job.
Hahaha happy to disappoint you, HZ and Lorne Balfe provided a good 50% of the score for the sequel:
