The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced that Danny Elfman will be attending a series of concerts this March at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. On March 21, 2014, the concert Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton will make its premiere in Switzerland. The event, which features the composer’s music for the director’s films such as Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish world premiered last year at London’s Royal Albert Hall and will also be performed in other cities this spring and summer, including Prague, Mexico City, Seattle and San Diego. On March 22 & 23, the KKL will host the world premiere performance of Elfman‘s original score for Burton’s Alice in Wonderland performed live to projection. Both concerts will be performed by the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and the 21st Century Chorus under the baton of Ludwig Wicki. They are joined at the Alice in Wonderland event by the Boys Choir Lucerne. Tickets for all concerts are available on KKL’s website.
The 21st Orchestra Orchestra will also present the concert Music of Howard Shore – Middle-Earth and Beyond, which will feature a 50-minute suite from Howard Shore‘s music from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as his concert works Ruin and Memory and Mythic Gardens. The composer will also personally attend the concert, which will take place on April 20, 2014. On Saturday May 24, Michael Giacchino will attend the world premiere live to projection performance of his score for Star Trek Into Darkness, followed by another performance of his score for J.J. Abrams’ first Star Trek film on May 25.
