Director Gareth Evans has announced on Twitter that Joseph Trapanese, Fajar Yuskemal and Aria Prayogi will be composing the score for the upcoming action sequel The Raid 2. Iko Uwais will reprise his role as police officer Rama from 2011’s The Raid: Redemption. The film takes place right after the first film ends and follows Rama as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force. Evans has also written the screenplay and Ario Sagantoro is producing the PT Merantau Films and XYZ Films production with Nate Bolotin, Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian and Todd Brown. The Raid: Redemption featured a score by Tuskemal and Prayogi when the film premiered at 2011’s Toronto International Film Festival and Trapanese co-scored the U.S. theatrical version of the movie with Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda. The Raid 2 is expected to be released in 2014 by Sony Pictures Classics.
As previously reported, Trapanese (Oblivion, TRON: Uprising) also has the family adventure Echo coming up. Relativity Media has picked up domestic distribution rights from Disney since our last update and is currently planning a release on April 25, 2014.
