Since our last update on this year’s film music-related events at Comic-Con in San Diego, a couple of additional announcements have been made. Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) has joined the panel The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music: Bringing a Comic Book to Life, which also features such participants as Marco Beltrami and Brian Tyler. It was just announced that the composer will be scoring Marvel’s upcoming superhero TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. earlier this week. As previously reported, McCreary will also participate in The Character of Music panel with Jonathan Steinberg from the upcoming Black Sails series. In addition, there will also be a live performance of the original Black Sails score with McCreary playing accordion and hurdy gurdy at a screening event on July 18 at 8:30 p.m. at Reading Cinemas (701 5th Ave). Finally, the composer will also participate in a panel for the sci-fi feature Europa Report with director Sebastián Cordero, producer Ben Browning, actress Karolina Wydra and JPL scientists Steve Vance and Kevin Hand. The event will take place on Thursday, June 18 at 1:10 p.m. in Hall H.
Additionally, on Thursday, July 18, Scott Glasgow (Hatchet III, The Gene Generation) will participate in a panel for the new animated feature Robotech: Love Live Alive. The composer contributed music and arrangements for the film to be released on the July 23. The panel, which also features Tommy Yune and Steve Yun will take place at 8:15p.m. in room 6DE.
On Friday, July 19, composer Ryan Shore (Prime, Numb) is joining a panel for the documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster. The composer scored the film, which showcases Drew Struzan, the iconic illustrator of the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Muppet Movie movie posters (among many others), and includes exclusive interviews with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro and others. The panel, which also includes Drew Struzan himself, will take place right on Friday from 7:00p.m. to 8:00p.m., right before the documentary’s world premiere at Gasland 15 Cinemas.
Finally, on Saturday, July 20, composer Jeremy Zuckerman will participate in a signing for Nickelodeon’s animated series The Legend of Korra with co-creators and executive producers Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The event will take place at the Nickelodeon booth from 3:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
