Mateo Messina has signed on to score the indie comedy A Case of You. The film is directed by Kat Coiro and stars Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, Vince Vaughn, Peter Dinklage, Sam Rockwell, Sienna Miller, Brendan Fraser, Keir O’Donnell and Busy Phillips. The movie follows a young writer who tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but finds himself in trouble when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act. Long and O’Donnell have written the script with Long’s younger brother Christian and they are also producing the project with Holly Wiersma (Bobby, Bug), Logan Levy and Jessie Kennedy (Stolen). A Case of You is currently in post-production and a release in 2013 is expected.
A Case of You marks Mateo’s third feature for Coiro. They have previously worked together on the comedy L!fe Happens!, which was released earlier this year, as well as the upcoming romantic drama While We Were Here. The film starring Kate Bosworth, Jamie Blackley and Iddo Goldberg follows a young American writer who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when she accompanies her husband on a business trip. The movie produced by Lauren Bratman premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. Arclight Films has picked up international rights and the film is currently awaiting a domestic release.
As previously reported, Messina who is best known for his music for Jason Reitman’s Juno, also has the satire Butter starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Ty Burrell, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene and Alicia Silverstone coming up. The film will be released on October 5, 2012 in theaters and on September 7 on VOD by the Weinstein Company’s new Radius label. Check out the film’s most recent trailer below.
Also coming up for Messina is the indie comedy drama Lumpy written and directed by Ted Koland. The film stars Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Tyler Labine, Addison Timlin, Frances O’Connor Michael Landes, Evan Jones and Shelley Long. The composer has also scored the indie drama The Story of Luke written and directed by Alonso Mayo. The movie stars Lou Taylor Pucci as a young, autistic man who is searching for a job and a woman. Seth Green, Kristin Bauer and Cary Elwes are co-starring. No release dates have been announced for both films.
Other upcoming projects of the busy composer include the horror thriller Breaking the Girl directed by Jamie Babbit and starring Madeline Zima, Shawn Ashmore, Agnes Bruckner and John Stockwell about two college students who make a pact to kill each other’s enemies, the documentary La Source directed and produced by Patrick Shen and narrated by Don Cheadle, as well as the comedy Family Weekend directed by Benjamin Epps and starring Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Modine and Olesya Rulin about a 16-year-old who becomes fed up with her family’s lack of attention and decides to take her parents hostage.
