NME.com is reporting that composer Ilan Eshkeri and Tim Wheeler are scoring the upcoming British music drama Spike Island. The film is directed by Mat Whitecross (The Road to Guantanamo) and stars Elliott Tittensor (Shameless) and Matthew McNulty (Misfits) as the members of an aspiring band who take a trip to see their idols, the Stone Roses, play the now-legendary Spike Island concert, which is also known as the “baggy Woodstock” and took place in 1990 as the Madchester scene was at its height. The Stone Roses have given permission to use their music for the film. Lesley Manville (Another Year) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) are also among the cast members. Chris Coghill has written the screenplay and Fiona Neilson and Esther Douglas are producing the Fiesta Productions film. Wheeler is best known as the guitarist, songwriter and vocalist of the rock band Ash. Wheeler and Eshkeri whose film scoring credits include Stardust, Layer Cake and Coriolanus have previously collaborated the upcoming thriller Ashes starring Jim Sturgess, Ray Winstone and Lesley Manville for the director and producers. Spike Island is currently in post-production. No word yet on a release date.
Eshkeri’s other upcoming project also include the Kerri Russell-starring romantic comedy Austenland, the animated film Justin and the Knights of Valour and the drama The Invisible Woman directed by Ralph Fiennes.
