BT has been tapped to score the upcoming dance movie Step Up 4. The sequel will be set in the backdrop of Miami. As announced this week, music video/commercials director Scott Speer will be helming the film and Jon Chu who directed the last two installments in the series (and is attached to direct the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel) will be executive producing. Chu and Steer previously worked together on the TV show The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. The film’s script is being written by Jenny Mayer and Adam Shankman (Hairspray, the upcoming Rock of Ages) is among the movie’s producers. The project marks BT’s first feature scoring assignment in several years. The composer/music producer/singer and songwriter, also known as Brian Transeau is best known in the film music community for his scores for The Fast and the Furious, Go and Monster. The previous Step Up installments featured scores by Aaron Zigman (Step Up and Step Up 2: The Streets) and Bear McCreary (Step Up 3D). Step Up 4 will be shot in 3D and is set for a production start date this Summer. No release date has been announced yet for the Summit Entertainment production, but the project is targeted for a release in 2012.
