David Arnold is the recipient of the Richard Kirk Award for career achievment at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The Grammy-winning composer (Independence Day) has previously received 10 BMI film music awards. Arnold is best known as the composer of the last five James Bond movies, as well as for his music for Roland Emmerich’s Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla. The composer has also worked multiple times with directors John Singleton (Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious), Michael Apted (Enough, Amazing Grace) and Roger Michell (Changing Lanes) and is coming off of a busy year, in which he scored four feature films (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Morning Glory, Made in Dagenham and Paul). Arnold follows previous Richard Kirk Award recipients John Williams, John Barry, Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Thomas Newman, Michael Kamen, Rachel Portman, David Newman, Mark Mothersbaugh, Alan Menken, Christopher Young, Harry Gregson-Williams, George S. Clinton and Mike Post. The BMI Film & Television Awards will be held in Los Angeles on May 18, 2011.
