The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jonny Greenwood has signed on to score the upcoming indie drama We Need to Talk About Kevin. The film is directed by Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar) and stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller. The movie is based on a novel by Lionel Shriver and centers around the mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree and tries to deal with her grief and feelings of responsibility for her child’s actions by writing to her estranged husband. The film marks only third major scoring assignment for the Radiohead member after having previously scored Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood in 2007 and the recent Japanese drama Norwegian Woods. We Need to Talk About Kevin was developed by BBC Films and is slated to be released in the UK in September by Artificial Eye. No domestic distribution deal or release date has been announced.
