Film Music Reporter has learned that Lucas Vidal has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day. In the movie, a young American uncovers a conspiracy during his attempt to save his family, who were kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. The movie directed by Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD) stars Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill. The movie, which is currently in post-production marks the first big budget feature for the Spanish composer. Summit Entertainment is planning a 2011 release.
Vidal also has the mystery thriller Vanishing on 7th Street coming out in theaters next year. The movie directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist, Transsiberian) and starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo premiered at this year’s Toronto film festival and has subsequently been picked up by Magnet Releasing for domestic distribution. The movie takes place during a massive power outage which plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness. For the film’s trailer, check out the official movie webpage, where you also can find a music section including seven audio clips from Vidal’s score. Vanishing on 7th Street will be released in theaters in select cities on February 11, 2011 and appear on Video on Demand in January of next year.
