Luca Guadagnino has revealed in a recent interview with Variety that Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Mank, Soul, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) are currently scoring the director’s upcoming romantic sports comedy Challengers. The film starring Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor follows a tennis player-turned-coach who has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous Grand Slam champion and makes him play a “Challenger” event, where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend. Justin Kuritzkes wrote the screenplay. Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria) & Zendaya are also producing the MGM production with Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Far from Home, Little Women) and Rachel O’Connor. Reznor & Ross have previously scored (and contributed and original song for) Guadagnino’s last feature, Bones and All, which premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will open in theaters on November 23. Challengers is currently in post-production and is scheduled to be released theatrically on August 11, 2023 by United Artists.

Reznor’s & Ross’ other recent projects include Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, which will be released in U.S. theaters on December 9.
