Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have announced that Hans Zimmer will be composing the score for the upcoming new film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Prisoners) and stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. The movie tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. Villeneuve also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, A Star Is Born) and Jon Spaiht (Doctor Strange, Passengers) and is producing the project with Mary Parent (The Revenant, Pacific Rim), Cale Boyter (Pacific Rim: Uprising) and Joe Caracciolo. Zimmer has previously co-scored Villeneuve’s last feature Blade Runner 2049 with Benjamin Wallfisch. Dune is set to be released worldwide on November 20, 2020 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
As previously reported, Zimmer also has Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman 1984, (to be released on June 5, 2020) X-Men: Dark Phoenix (coming out on June 7, 2019), Disney’s The Lion King remake (set top open on July 19, 2019) and Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick (to be released on June 26, 2020) coming up.
