Alberto Iglesias has signed on to score the upcoming biographical drama Yuli. The movie directed by Iciar Bollain (Even the Rain, Take My Eyes) tells the story of Cuban ballet superstar Carlos Acosta’s rise from the streets of Havana to the heights of classical ballet, becoming the first black principal guest dancer at the Royal Ballet in London. Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) wrote the screenplay based on Acosta’s autobiography No Way Home. The project is produced by BBC Films, Potboiler Productions and Spain’s Morena Films. Yuli is currently in pre-production. No word yet on a targeted release date. (Variety)
Iglesias’ recent projects also include the political thriller The Summit, which will premiere next week at the Cannes Film Festival. The Academy Award-nominated composer of such films as The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy also has the Spanish/French drama Quién te cantará coming up.
