Bear McCreary is composing the score for the upcoming animated feature Animal Crackers. The film is directed by Tony Bancroft (Mulan) & Scott Christian Sava and features the voice talent of Emily Blunt, Sylvester Stallone, Ian McKellen, John Krasinski, Patrick Warburton and Danny DeVito. The movie centers on a family whose life is turned upside down when they inherit a rundown circus and a mysterious box of Animal Crackers, which magically changes the person who eats them into animals. Sava has also written the screenplay with Dean Lorey (Arrested Development) who is also producing the Blue Dream Studios production with George Lee, Marcus Englefield, James Thomason and Leiming Guan. The project marks McCreary’s first animated movie assignment. Animal Crackers is expected to be released in 2017.
McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Boy, Battlestar Galactica) also continues to score Starz’s Outlander, AMC’s The Walking Dead, ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Starz’s Black Sails.
So, is McCreary’s score being kept? IMDb won’t take the submission, and all the music department credits of people who worked for him on the score, from music editors to assistants, to even the contractor (Peter Rotter) has been gutted. These all point to a score tossed and a new composer onboard.
