Heitor Pereira has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature The Nut Job 2. The film is directed by Cal Brunker (Escape From Planet Earth) and features the voices of Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Maya Rudolph, Gabriel Iglesias and Jeff Dunham who reprise their characters from the original movie. The sequel follows Surly Squirrel and his ragtag group of animal friends band as they come together to defeat the evil mayor of Oaktown who decides to bulldoze Liberty Park and build a dangerous amusement park in its place. Brunker has also written the screenplay with Bob Barlen and Scott Bindley (Madison). Harry Linden, Barlen and Sunghwan Kim are producing the project. Paul Intson has composed the music for the 2014 original film. The Nut Job 2 is set to be released on May 19, 2017 by Open Road Films.
Pereira whose previous scoring credits include Despicable Me and its sequel, Minions and The Smurfs movies has recently scored The Angry Birds Movie, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The composer has also composed the music for the upcoming fantasy adventure The Moon and the Sun starring Pierce Brosnan
