Patrick Doyle is set to compose the music for the upcoming comedy Whisky Galore. The film is directed by Gillies MacKinnon (A Simple Twist of Faith, Hideous Kinky, Behind the Lines) and stars Eddie Izzard, Gregor Fisher, John Sessions, Fenella Woolgar, Tim Piggott-Smith and Sean Biggerstaff. The movie is based on the novel by Compton MacKenzie and the 1949 film of the same title and centers around thereal-life 1941 shipwreck of the S.S. Politician, which ran aground with a cargo of 264,000 bottles of malt whisky. Peter McDougall has written the screenplay. Iain Maclean is producing the project with Alan J. Doyle also recently composed the music for the stage play The Winter’s Tale co-directed by Kenneth Branagh & Rob Ashford, which opened earlier this month in London and will be simulcast to theaters in the U.S. today.
