Howard Shore has signed on to score the upcoming historical drama The Free State of Jones. The film is written and directed by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) and stars Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali. The movie is set during the Civil War and tells the story of a defiant Southern farmer and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Ross is also producing the project with Scott Stuber (Ted, Role Models, Safe House) and John Kilik (The Hunger Games, Babel, Foxcatcher). The Free State of Jones is set to be released on March 11, 2016 by STX Entertainment.
Shore’s upcoming projects also include Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, as well as Thomas McCarthy’s Spotlight, which will premiere next month at the Venice Film Festival and is scheduled to be released on November 6, 2015.
