David Hirschfelder is set to score the upcoming period comedy The Dressmaker. The film is written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and stars Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving, Caroline Goodall, Shane Bourne, Kerry Fox, Rebecca Gibney, Alison Whyte, Sacha Horler, Shane Jacobson, Genevieve Lemon and Sarah Snook. The movie based on the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham is set in the 1950s and follows an avenging angel who returns home to the remote country town from which she escaped as a child after being accused of murder, to make amends with her eccentric mother. Sue Maslin (Japanese Story) is producing the project. Moorhouse has previously collaborated with composers including Thomas Newman (How to Make an American Quilt) and Richard Hartley (A Thousand Acres). The Dressmaker is set to be released in Australia on October 1, 2015. No word yet on a domestic release. (Screen Daily)
As previously reported, Hirschfelder whose previous scoring credits include Elizabeth, Shine, Australia, Legend of the Guardians and The Railway Man also recently scored Russell Crowe’s directorial debut The Water Diviner.
