Jóhann Jóhannsson is reteaming with director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Enemy) to score the upcoming crime drama Sicario. The film stars Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey Donovan. The movie follows an officer from Tucson, Arizona who travels to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries to track down a drug lord. Actor Taylor Sheridan wrote the screenplay and Basil Iwanyk (The Town, Clash of the Titans) is producing the Black Label Media and Thunder Road Pictures production with Molly Smith (P.S. I Love You, Beautiful Creatures), Trent Luckinbill & Thad Luckinbill (The Good Lie) and Ed McDonnell (Three Kings, Insomnia). Academy Award nominee Roger Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption, No Country for Old Men, Skyfall) serves as the film’s director of photography. Jóhannsson has previously collaborated with Villeneuve on last year’s critically acclaimed thriller Prisoners. Sicario will be released in 2015 by Lionsgate.
As previously reported, Jóhannsson has also composed the music for James Marsh’s Theory of Everything starring Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Charlie Cox & Emily Watson. The movie will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released on November 7, 2014 by Focus Features. Check out the film’s first trailer below.
