Christophe Beck has composed the music for the upcoming drama Cake. The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and stars Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, William H. Macy, Adriana Barraza, Felicity Huffman, Sam Worthington, Chris Messina and Mamie Gummer. The movie follows a woman in a chronic-pain support group who begins to investigate the suicide of a fellow group member and develops an unexpected relationship with the woman’s husband. Patrick Tobin has written the screenplay. Ben Barnz, Mark Canton, Kristin Hahn, Courtney Solomon are producing the Cinelou Films production. Beck has previously scored Barnz’s 2008 feature Phoebe in Wonderland starring Elle Fanning. The director’s last two movies Beastly and Won’t Back Down were scored by Marcelo Zarvos. Cake will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
As previously reported, Beck is also scoring the Andrew Niccol’s drama Good Kill starring Ethan Hawke, which is also premiering at the festival. The composer has also composed the music for the comedies Let’s Be Cops (with Jake Monaco), Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Hot Tub Time Machine 2. He also co-scored the documentary Red Army with Leo Birenberg. The movie directed and produced by Gabe Polsky chronicles the rise and fall of Soviet hockey in the 1980s. Jerry Weintraub, Werner Herzog and Liam Satre-Meloy are executive producing the project. The documentary premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will also be playing in Toronto. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up domestic distribution rights. No word yet on a release date.
