Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming adventure drama Everest. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, 2 Guns) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Sam Worthington, Emily Watson, Clive Standen, Martin Henderson, Thomas Wright, Michael Kelly and John Hawkes. The movie is based on the 1996 disaster on Everest that left eight climbers dead and follows the two different expeditions that challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God) and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) have written the screenplay. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Frost/Nixon, Love Actually, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) are producing the project for Working Title, alongside Tyler Thompson & Brian Oliver (Black Swan, The Woman in Black) for Cross Creek Pictures, as well as Nicky Kentish Barnes (About Time). Marianelli has previously scored Working Title’s Atonement, The Soloist and Anna Karenina. Everest is currently in post-production and set to be released on February 27, 2015 by Universal Pictures.
Also coming up for the Academy Award-winning composer is the animated feature The Boxtrolls and the thriller Wild Card (previously entitled Heat) starring Jason Statham, Sofia Vergara & Stanley Tucci. Currently playing in limited release is the drama Third Person, which Marianelli scored last summer ahead of the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
