Sigur Rós front man Jónsi and Alex Somers have been hired to score the upcoming WGN America original series Manhattan. The show is created by Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex) and stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Daniel Stern, Ashley Zukerman and Rachel Brosnahan. The drama is set against the backdrop of the clandestine mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico and follows the brilliant but flawed scientists and their families. Shaw is also executive producing the Skydance TV, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate TV production with David Ellison & Dana Goldberg (World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness), Marcy Ross and Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Sports Night) who also directed the pilot episode. Manhattan marks WGN America’s second scripted original series following Salem. The show’s first season of 13 episodes is set to premiere this July. (Billboard)
As previously reported, Jónsi and Alex have also composed the score for the indie drama The Wilderness of James, which recently premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and is currently awaiting a distribution deal.
