Tyler Bates is composing the score for the new supernatural period drama Salem. The show is created by Adam Simon (The Haunting in Connecticut) & Brannan Braga (Star Trek: Voyager, Flash Forward, Terra Nova) and stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle, Xander Berkeley and Iddo Goldberg. The series is set in 17th century Massachusetts and explores what really fueled the town of Salem’s infamous witch trials and uncovers the supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. Simon and Braga are also executive producing the Fox21 production with Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetzis (Wilfred, Royal Pains). Richard Shepard (The Matador, Dom Hemingway) has directed the pilot episode of the 13-part series. Salem is set to premiere on April 20, 2014 and will air every Sunday on WGN America. Bates is also scoring Marvel Studios’ upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn. The composer of such films as 300, Watchmen and Dawn of the Dead and TV shows including Showtimes’s Californication and AMC’s Low Winter Sun has also scored Ti West’s The Sacrament, Joe Johnston’s Not Safe for Work and Takashi Shimizu’s 7500, all of which are expected to be released later this year.
