According to The Playlist, Thomas Newman has been tapped to score Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming drama The Bitter Pill. The movie starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta Jones revolves around a young woman who is taking large amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding her husband’s upcoming release from prison. Scott Z. Burns (The Informant!, Contagion) has written the screenplay and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers) and Gregory Jacobs (Contagion, Haywire) are producing the film. Newman has previously collaborated with Soderbergh on the Academy Award-nominated drama Erin Brockovich and 2006’s The Good German, for which the composer has received his eighth Oscar nomination. The Bitter Pill is scheduled to be released on February 8, 2013 by Open Road Films.
Newman’s other upcoming feature film project is Sam Mendes’ James Bond film Skyfall. Coming out in the US next month is the comedy drama The Best Exotic Marigold, which the composer scored last year and has already been released overseas.
