Film Music Reporter has learned that Mychael Danna has started work on the upcoming drama Moneyball. The film tells the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players. The movie stars Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt. Moneyball is based on a book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side) and is directed by Bennett Miller who previously worked with Mychael Danna on 2005’s Oscar nominated biopic Capote. Sony Pictures currently has Moneyball set for a September 23, 2011 release date.
Mychael Danna is also attached to score Ang Lee’s adventure drama Life of Pi. In the movie based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel centers around Pi Patel, the precocious son of a zookeeper. After a shipwreck, he is found adrift in the Pacific Ocean on a 26-foot lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, all fighting for survival. Adapted for the screen by David Magee (Finding Neverland), the film stars Irrfan Khan. Danna and Lee previously worked together on The Ice Storm and Ride With the Devil. Lee also worked with such composers as Danny Elfman (Hulk, Taking Woodstock), Alexandre Desplat (Lust, Caution) and Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Life of Pi is currently filming and is scheduled to be released on December 14, 2012 by Fox 2000.
