ABC Classic has released a soundtrack album for the Australian family drama Blueback. The album features the film’s original score composed by Nigel Westlake (Babe, Miss Potter, Babe: Pig in the City, Paper Planes, Ali’s Wedding) and performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Northey. Blueback is directed by Robert Connolly and stars Mia Wasikowska, Radha Mitchell, Ilsa Fogg, Ariel Donoghue, Liz Alexander, Clarence Ryan, Erik Thomson, Pedrea Jackson, Eddie Baroo and Eric Bana. The movie is based on the bestselling book by Tim Winton and tells the story of a young girl living with her environmentalist mother on Australia’s pristine west coast as she forms a bond with a wild blue groper living in her local reef. The drama will open in Australian theaters on New Year’s Day and is also being released in several other international markets over the next couple of weeks. Quiver Distribution has picked up domestic distribution rights for a release in the U.S. later in 2023.
