Legendary Pictures has announced that Jeymes Samuel (aka The Bullitts) is set to score the upcoming epic drama The Book of Clarence. He is also directing the movie starring LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, David Oyelowo, Anna Diop, Alfre Woodard and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The film is inspired by classic Hollywood epics set in biblical times and follows a down on his luck denizen of Jerusalem as he embarks on a misguided attempt to capitalize on the rise of celebrity and influence of the Messiah for his own personal gain . Samuel also wrote the screenplay and is producing the project with James Lassiter (I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness), Tendo Nagenda and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. Samuel has previously scored his feature directorial debut, The Harder They Fall, which was released in select theaters and on Netflix last year. The Book of Clarence just started principal photography yesterday in Italy and will be distributed by Sony Pictures. No word yet on a release date.
