Deutsche Grammophon will release a soundtrack album for Jóhann Jóhannsson’s feature directorial debut Last and First Men. The album features the original music written by the late composer whose film scoring credits include Arrival, The Theory of Everything, Prisoners & Sicario and Yair Elazar Glotman and also features musical performances by Academy Award winner Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, February 28 (click here to pre-order). A CD/Blu-ray combo version is set to come out on March 27 (visit Amazon to order) and a vinyl/Blu-ray box set will arrive on April 10 (click here to order). Last and First Men narrated by Tilda Swinton is based on Jóhannsson’s multimedia work (which itself is based on on the 1930 novel by Olaf Stapledon), which was presented as a live performance at the Manchester International Festival in 2017 and involved the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The film just premiered this week at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival.
